Ulster County resident Cung L. Phutin, age 28, of the town of Ulster, was charged on Friday, Oct. 11.
According to Ulster Police Chief Kyle Berardi, the department initiated an investigation regarding a 28-year-old male engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.
Berardi said as a result of an investigation, Phutin was found to have befriended the victim for several months before having sexual intercourse with her in June 2024.
Phutin was located and taken into custody without incident, the chief said.
He was charged with the rape and two counts of criminal sexual act.
Phutin was processed and arraigned before Ulster County Cap Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
